Iran’s Steel Output Hits 15 Million Tons
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total volume of steel Iran produced in the first eleven months of 2014 has reached 14.97 million tons, showing a 6 percent increase over the same period last year despite sanctions against the country’s steel industry.
According to the latest report released by World Steel Association, Iran’s steel output in the first eleven months of the year 2013 amounted to 14,072 million tons, and this figure was raised to 14.97 this year.
In November 2014, Iran produced 1.459 million tons of steel, indicating a 6 percent increase compared to the same month in 2013, in which the figure amounted to 1.375 million tons.
Earlier reports had shown that Iran’s steel production also rose by 6.6 percent in 2013 compared to the total production in 2012, making the country the 15th biggest steel producer in the world.
The ascending trend of steel production in Iran comes despite the sanctions imposed by Western countries on the country's steel industry and the ban on selling equipment and raw materials to the Islamic Republic.
Iran is the biggest steel producer in the Middle East and North Africa. The country’s main steel production facilities are located in Isfahan and Khuzestan provinces.
