Bahrainis to Hold Protests in Solidarity with Saudi People in Al-Awamiyah

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Bahraini opposition groups plan to stage a massive protest march in the Persian Gulf country on Monday to voice their solidarity with the oppressed people of Saudi Arabia in al-Awamiyah city.

In a statement, Bahrain’s February 14th Youth Movement called on the people of the Arab country to take part in the demonstration to condemn Saudi forces’ raid on houses of opposition activists in Awamiyah on Saturday which left 5 people dead.

The protest march will be held on Monday with the motto of “Your martyr is our martyr”, the statement said.

Earlier on Sunday night, Bahrainis held protests in different parts of the country, including Sitra, Salihiya and Sadad, in support of the Saudi martyrs in Awamiyah.

The protests came as Riyadh has stepped up its crackdown on opposition parties. Regime forces stormed a residential area and killed at least five people in Awamiyah on Saturday.

According to reports, the victims were anti-regime campaigners. Tens of people were wounded in the raid and the security forces also made several arrests.

Since February 2011, protesters have held demonstrations on an almost regular basis in Saudi Arabia, mainly in Qatif and Awamiyah in Eastern Province, despite a deadly crackdown by the regime.
