Iran Defender Pejman Montazeri out of AFC Asian Cup
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian national football team defender Pejman Montazeri has been ruled out the 2015 AFC Asian Cup with a calf injury.
The 31-year-old Umm Salal defender injured in the match against El Jaish in the Qatar Stars League on December 19.
“Montazeri has been sidelined for three or four weeks and cannot participate in the AFC Asian Cup,” president of Iran Football Federation (IFF) Ali Kaffashian said.
The Asian Cup will kick off in Australia on January 9, with Iran playing Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE in Group C.
Iran will travel to Sydney on December 29 and train at Cromer Park on the northern beaches until January 7, when it heads to Melbourne for its opening match against Bahrain on January 11.
