Arming ISIL Threatening World Security: Iranian MP
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi slammed major world powers and their regional allies for arming ISIL terrorist, describing it a dire threat to global security.
Referring to the recent developments in the region, Boroujerdi stressed that sponsoring the ISIL “has endangered security and peace” in different parts of the world.
The so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is a terrorist group believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.
The terrorist groups made swift advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer, after capturing large swaths of northern Syria.
However, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces, who rushed to take arms after top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for fight against the militants, have blunted the edge of the ISIL offensive and freed many towns and villages.
The senior Iranian lawmaker made the remarks in a meeting with Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of Georgia’s Parliament Tedo Japaridze here in Tehran.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Boroujerdi said that Iran’s transparency in the course of the nuclear negotiations (with world powers) shows the country’s “honesty”.
He also warned that the excessive demands put forward by the US impede the progress of the talks.
“Excessive demands put forward by the US is a serious obstacle to clinching a deal in the talks between Iran and Group 5+1 (the five permanent UNSC members plus Germany),” he added.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are in talks to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
