Croatia Keen to Expand Cooperation, Investment in Iran: Envoy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Croatia’s Ambassador to Iran Striebor Keric stressed his country’s willingness to develop cooperation with the Islamic Republic in various fields.

In a meeting with Chairman of the Trade Development Organization of Iran Valiollah Afkhami-Raad on Sunday, Keric said Croatian traders and industries are keen to invest in Iran and cooperate with the country in areas like energy, electronics, construction, medicine, information technology and tourism.

He said Iran and Croatia are friendly countries and it is important that they have strong political as well as economic ties.

Keric further said Zagreb is willing to revive the Iran-Croatia joint economic commission after a ten-year interruption.

Afkhami-Raad, for his part, referred to the great potential for strong bilateral relations and said Tehran seeks to boost cooperation with Zagreb.

Transportation, tourism, health, medical education, agriculture, mining, ship-building, and energy provide good grounds for enhancing bilateral trade, he stated.

Chairman of the Trade Development Organization of Iran further referred to a recent visit by Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic to Tehran and expressed optimism about "the bright future of economic and political relations between the two countries".

Pusic visited Tehran last week and held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif about bilateral ties, Iran’s relations with the EU and the nuclear talks between Tehran and world powers.

After Croatia declared independence in June 1991, Iran became the 7th country to recognize the newly independent Southeastern European nation.
