Iranian President Congratulates New President of Zambia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Edgar Chagwa Lungu on his election as the new president of Zambia.

In a message to his Zambian counterpart, Rouhani congratulated Lungu on his victory in the recent presidential election of the Southern African country, and hoped for further deepening of bilateral ties between Tehran and Lusaka.

“I hope that during the new term of office and given the political will of the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Zambia, we will witness further promotion of cooperation at bilateral and international levels,” Rouhani said in the message.

He also wished health and success for the new president and prosperity for the Zambian people and government.

Edgar Chagwa Lungu (born 11 November 1956) has been the President of Zambia since January 2015. Under President Michael Sata, Lungu served as Minister of Justice and Minister of Defense.
