Belarusian President Planning Iran Visit

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is slated to pay a visit to Iran in the near future in a bid to expand economic cooperation between the two countries.

He announced the plan in a meeting with the visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tuesday, BelTA news agency reported.

Lukashenko stressed that during the forthcoming visit he is going to focus on the economic dimension of Belarus-Iran relations.

“Our political, diplomatic relations are at the very high level, but the economic relations need to be improved. We will thus focus on the economy during the visit,” he underlined.

Iran has injected over $600 million into various projects in Belarus, Lukashenko declared, but at the same time noted that there has been a certain slowdown in the implementation of these projects recently.

“I would like to assure you that we will be always committed to our agreements and will do our best to create good conditions for our partners in Belarus,” the Belarusian leader added.

He further expressed the hope that the two countries could show an example of cooperation between the states regardless of the difficulties they face due to economic sanctions.
