Commander Hails IRGC Ground Force Achievements

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) described border security and the ability to fight asymmetric battles as the two great achievements of the IRGC Ground Force in recent years.

Speaking at a TV program on Monday night, Lieutenant Commander of IRGC Ground Force Brigadier General Abdollah Araqi said that full security now prevails along the whole borders of Iran, thanks to the efforts made by IRGC ground force.

He also added that the other remarkable achievement of the IRGC ground force in recent years is its ability to fight asymmetric warfare.

“Based on the principles of asymmetric war, we have innovated new methods and tactics of war in the IRGC Ground Force and have displayed them in various wargames,” Brigadier General Araqi pointed out.

In relevant comments on August 15, Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan had also stated that modern wars have assumed new shape and nature and the human factor and asymmetric tactics now play a bigger role compared with the past conflicts.

“The existing conditions in the region have changed and these days we witness new forms of threats, which are different from those in the past,” Pourdastan said at the time.

He had said that the current atmosphere is called an "asymmetrical atmosphere" by military commentators, adding, “According to the military analysts, under such conditions the more advanced side should win the war, but the realities on the ground may show different results. It means that advanced technologies alone do not create asymmetry, and that at times religious beliefs and convictions can be the cause of asymmetry."
