Iraqi Politician Figure Calls for Closer Ties with Iran


TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim emphasized the importance of Iran’s role in the regional developments, and called for the expansion of Tehran-Baghdad ties in all spheres.

During a meeting with Iranian Minister of Justice Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi in Baghdad on Saturday, al-Hakim described the two countries’ role in the regional developments as significant, and underlined the necessity for the promotion of bilateral relations in all areas.

Al-Hakim also said that the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iraq is an indication of the nation’s presence in decision-making, and guarantees stability and security in Iraq.

Pour-Mohammadi, for his part, touched upon the active presence of Iraq’s political parties in the upcoming parliamentary elections, and expressed the hope that the election would promote democracy in the country.
