Tehran, Minsk Consultations Contributing to Regional Stability: Larijani
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said continued consultations between Iran and Belarus have helped to uphold stability in the region.
Speaking in a meeting with Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich on Wednesday, Larijani stated that political consultations between the two countries have contributed profoundly to the establishment of stability and security in the region.
He called for closer cooperation and expanded coordination between Iran and Belarus in resolving regional issues.
Larijani is in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, heading a parliamentary delegation to the European country at the invitation of Vladimir Andreichenko, speaker of the National Assembly of Belarus.
The top Iranian parliamentarian further said the two countries should enhance cooperation in various areas, including industrial fields.
Myasnikovich, for his part, commended Iran for supporting Belarus in the international arena.
He stressed that Tehran and Minsk enjoy good relations, partnership and mutual respect.
The Belarusian premier also stated that Larijani’s visit opened a new chapter in the history of cooperation between the two countries and hoped that the visit would bring about good results.
Larijani, who arrived in Minsk on Wednesday, also held talks with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and his counterpart Vladimir Andreichenko.
Before leaving Tehran for Minsk, Larijani described the level of ties with Belarus as “good”, and said the two countries share common views on the regional issues.
“Belarus is one of Iran’s major commercial partners,” Larijani told reporters.
Iran and Belarus established diplomatic relations in 1992, and opened embassies in each other's capitals.
The two countries have enjoyed good relations in recent years reflected in regular high level meetings and various agreements.
