Iran’s President Urges Stronger Economic Ties with Armenia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for enhanced trade ties with neighboring Armenia, saying the two countries’ private sectors can contribute to broadening of economic cooperation between Tehran and Yerevan.

In a Monday meeting with visiting Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian in Tehran, President Rouhani voiced Iran’s preparedness to host the Armenian investors as part of a broader effort to strengthen economic and trade ties between the two neighboring states.

He added that Tehran would also encourage the Iranian private sector to invest in Armenia mutually.

President Rouhani further expressed the hope that the economic and trade relations between the two nations would flourish.

Nalbandian, for his part, pointed to Tehran-Yerevan close ties in cultural, training, energy and transportation fields, and hailed the reciprocal visits by the two countries’ officials.

Iran and Armenia, as two neighboring states, have always enjoyed amicable relations in a whole host of fields.

In a separate meeting earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Armenia counterpart discussed a broad range of issues, including Tehran-Yerevan bilateral relations as well as the political, parliamentary and economic cooperation.

“The two countries’ stances on the international issues were close and common, and we are grateful for Armenia’s supports for our country in the international arena,” Zarif said in a press conference following the meeting with Nalbandian.
