Iran Fully Supports New Iraqi PM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian lawmaker slammed some regional countries for their divisive conspiracies in Iraq and said the Islamic Republic fully supports Iraq’s new premier and the country’s political developments.

“Iran offers its all-out support for Prime Minister Al-Abadi while using all its capacity regarding its connections with the political groups for the formation of a strong government,” said Abbas Ali Mansouri Arani, a member of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.

The Iranian parliamentarian also welcomed the current political unity in Iraq and said Baghdad needed empathy and convergence among different sects and tribes in order to restore peace to the country and get prepared to fight Takfiri militants.

Pointing to the numerous problems Al-Abadi would face in creating national consensus, Mansouri hailed former prime minister Nouri al-Maliki’s decision to step down in favor of Abadi and expressed that the move foiled the plots hatched by some regional countries.

Nouri al-Maliki stepped down on Thursday to make way for Haider al-Abadi, Iraq’s new prime minister designate in an effort to “safeguard the high interests of the country”.
