Iran Eyes Stronger Ties with European Council

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani expressed the hope for the expansion of relations between Tehran and the European Council, which will be chaired by a new president from Poland.

“I hope that given the significant regional and international issues and the abundant potentials for cooperation and interaction, we would witness the enhancement of bilateral ties during your presidency,” Rouhani said in a congratulatory message to the European Council’s new president, Donald Tusk.

Back on August 30, European Union leaders chose former Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to chair their Council.

He will govern the European body over the next five years.

In remarks following his election, Tusk had announced he would bring an “energy” to the post, adding that Poland was a country that “believes in a united Europe.”
