The two attended a parliament’s closed session on Tuesday morning to give the MPs information about details of the framework agreement on Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
On April 2, Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a framework nuclear agreement after more than a week of intensive negotiations in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final, comprehensive accord until the end of June.
The framework provides a series of solutions that will be the basis of a comprehensive joint plan of action.
After the closed session, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Zarif and Salehi briefed the lawmakers on the process of the nuclear talks, Iran’s technical status and how the country’s nuclear interests could be safeguarded in the marathon negotiations.
In upbeat comments on Monday, Larijani had hailed the framework agreement as promising and expected a bright prospect in the nuclear talks.
"Fortunately, the (Iranian) administration's efforts on the nuclear issue reveal a good prospect. Moreover, the Lausanne press statement, which is the result of negotiations in recent months, is a good sign for the settlement of the nuclear issue," Larijani had explained.
