FIVB World League: Iran Earns 5th Successive Win


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian national volleyball team defeated world champion Poland to earn its fifth successive win in FIVB Volleyball World League Pool B Friday night.

The Iranian team beat the world champion in five sets 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 21-25, 25-16, 15-11).

Poland had won its last four World League matches against Iran after losing the first two. They had defeated Iran 3-1 and 3-2 at home this season, with Bartosz Kurek scoring 30 points for them in the 3-1 victory on June 5.

Iran had also won USA twice last weekend.

Shahram Mahmoudi led Iran with 18 points and Jakub Jarosz was Poland’s top scorer with 16 points.

Iran will play Poland again Sunday night.

Elsewhere, group leader USA defeated Russia in straigh sets.

USA leads Pool B with 20 points, while Iran is in third place with 15 points. Poland is second with 17 points and Russia has just two points.
