UN: July Death Toll in Iraq Surpasses 1,300

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Over 1,300 people were killed in acts of violence in Iraq in July, the United Nations mission in Iraq announced on Saturday.

The office said Saturday that at least 1,332 people, mostly civilians, were killed in the country last month.

The death toll includes at least 844 civilians, and 488 members of Iraqi security forces and pro-government volunteers.

It also said that Baghdad was the province worst hit by violence, with 335 deaths.

The UN also put the number of those wounded in violence in July at 2,108, Press TV reported.

However, there had been a slight drop of violence in July as compared to June, when at least 1,466 deaths and 1,687 injuries were recorded across Iraq, it added.

The developments come as Iraqi troops have gained more ground in their fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) Takfiri terrorists in recent months.
