Iranian Air Defense Base Exercises Targeting Drone

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian air defense units in the country's western regions shot down a hypothetical enemy Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) during an exercise to upgrade their capabilities.

In a shooting exercise with 23 mm cannons, Iran’s Air Defense forces targeted a drone employed as the hypothetical enemy aircraft.

Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili had announced earlier that the advanced homegrown radar systems have not left any loopholes in the country’s air defense system.

During a visit to an Air Defense base southwest of Iran on Monday, the commander noted that the whole radar, electronic and missile systems are monitoring the country’s skies round the clock.

According to the commander’s comments last year, the Air Defense has plans to increase the number of its sites from 3,600 to 5,000.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and has attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems. As part of these accomplishments, Iran’s Air Defense has been able to build a big part of its equipment and radar systems by its own experts.

Tehran has always assured other nations that its military power poses no threat to the regional countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
