Iranian MP: Nuclear Deal to Be Implemented If Other Side Avoids Excessive Demands

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker underlined that if the Western parties to a final nuclear agreement between Tehran and world powers avoid raising excessive demands, the implementation of the deal will be possible.

“We are optimistic about the outcome of the Vienna agreement and if the other parties avoid excuses and excessive demands, the grounds will be provided for the implementation of the deal,” Hossein Sobhani-Nia, vice-chairman of the Iranian parliament’s national security and foreign policy commission, said on Monday.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the Political Director of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs Jan Kikkert in Tehran.

Sobhani-Nia further thanked Austria for hosting the lengthy nuclear negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) and said the new conditions created after the recent nuclear agreement has a positive effect on the promotion of Iran’s relations with the European countries.

The Austrian diplomat, for his part, voiced his country’s willingness to boost ties with Iran, saying that reciprocal visits by the two countries’ political delegations is of great importance in bilateral relations in various spheres.

Iran and the Group 5+1  on July 14 reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.

The 159-page deal has its own opponents and proponents both in Iran and the other countries that are parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), particularly the US.

While the United Nations Security Council has adopted a resolution to endorse the deal, the text of the document needs to be ratified by both Iran's Parliament and the US Congress.
