Hezbollah Official Calls Iran Deal Spring Board for Political Solutions in Region

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement's second-in-command hailed the recent conclusion of nuclear negotiations between Iran and six world powers as “a starting point” for political resolution of problems in the Middle East region.

Nuclear

“The nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers has set the stage for political solutions in the region,” Sheikh Naim Qassem said in a ceremony in Lebanon, according to the Arabic-language Al-Ahed news website.

The cleric further praised Iran’s power in the region, saying that nobody can overlook the fact that “Iran is a great and respected regional power” which cannot be ignored in the region.

Sheikh Qassem also called other regional countries to cooperate with the Islamic Republic as world powers have already started such cooperation, adding that the move would serve their own interests.

The remarks come against the backdrop of a new wave of renewed interest in relations with Iran after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran's nuclear program.

The comprehensive nuclear deal between Iran and the six powers would terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran after coming into force.

The 159-page deal has its own opponents and proponents both in Iran and the other countries that are parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), particularly the US.

While the United Nations Security Council has adopted a resolution to endorse the deal, the text of the document needs to be ratified by both Iran's Parliament and the US Congress.
