Iran’s Initiatives in Favor of Syrians: MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A Syrian parliamentarian hailed Iran’s efforts for settling the crisis in the Arab country, saying initiatives developed by Iran will serve the interests of the Syrian people.

“Whatever solutions proposed by the Iranian brothers will, basically, serve the interests of the Syrian nation,” Khalid al-Aboud told Tasnim.

He also hailed Russia’s contribution to the peace process in Syria, saying the joint efforts by Tehran, Moscow and Damascus form a single set of initiatives to help the Syrian nation.

Iran has been in contact with Russia and Syria to find a political solution to the crisis that has plagued the Arab country for more than four years.

Last year, Tehran proposed a four-article plan for peace in Syria, which was welcomed by the UN. Iranian officials say that plan has now been updated.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011. In the past four years, more than 200,000 people have died in Syria - overwhelmingly civilians - and around 4 million Syrian people are now refugees in other countries. Another 7.6 million are displaced inside Syria.
