Iran Defeated by Australia at FIVB Volleyball World Cup


TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian national volleyball team lost to Australia in straight sets (27-25, 27-25, 25-22) in the third round of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Monday.

Shahram Mahmoudi led the Iran team with 21 markers.

Paul Carroll earned the Most Impressive Player award with his 24-point performance.

It was Iran’s sixth defeat at the tournament.

Sloboda Kovac’s men have lost to Argentina, Poland, Russia, USA, Italy and Australia so far and defeated Tunisia, Venezuela and Japan.

Iran has been scheduled to face Canada on Tuesday.

The tournament is a qualification process for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The top two teams will qualify for the Olympics and join Brazil as it has already secured a berth as the host country.
