71 Fishermen Lost during Tropical Storm in Philippines

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - More than 70 fishermen were missing in the Philippines Sunday after tropical storm Mujigae, which brought strong winds and big waves.

The Office of Civil Defense said 16 vessels and 71 fishermen were still unaccounted for in the north-western region, German News Agency, DPA, reported on Sunday.

On Saturday, emergency officials reported 143 fishermen and 24 boats from Pangasinan and La Union provinces missing.

"Eight fishing vessels and 72 fishermen have arrived safely," the office said Sunday.

Police, coast guard and the army have been conducting search and rescue operations.
