"The alliance with Iran is absolute game-changer and the strategic implications of it are very significant. It will impact every country in the region who will now begin to have relationships with Russia as opposed to the long-standing relationships they had with the US," Sputnik quoted Jack Keane as saying on Saturday.
"But our role in the Middle East is about to be diminished significantly," he added.
The American general further claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ultimate goal is to break up NATO.
Russia has been delivering airstrikes at terrorist forces in Syria since September 30, conducting over 120 combat sorties.
Earlier this week, four Russian Navy warships also fired a total of 26 missiles at the positions of the terrorist group ISIL in Syria.
The missile attacks came from Russia’s fleet in the Caspian Sea, which borders Russia, Iran and three other littoral countries. The precision weapons hit all intended targets. The attacks apparently required cooperation from Iran and Iraq, as the missiles had to travel through their airspace to reach Syria.
