At least 97 people were killed by suspected suicide bombers at a peace rally of leftist and pro-Kurdish activists in Ankara on Saturday. The attack also left 246 wounded, 48 of whom are in intensive care.
In his message, Larijani strongly condemned the attack, and extended his condolences to Yilmaz, and the Turkish government and nation, particularly the bereaved families of the victims.
“I am sure the attempts made by terrorists to undermine the security and peace in the friendly country of Turkey would fail,” Larijani stressed.
He also prayed God to bestow His mercy and blessings on the victims, and wished for immediate recovery for the wounded, and patience for the families of the victims.
The Iranian speaker had earlier decried as “dirty terrorist acts” the Saturday blasts in Ankara, which marked the deadliest terror attack in Turkey’s history.
“The dirty terrorist acts in Turkey that took the lives of tens of Muslims are another sign of the crisis in the region,” Larijani said in a parliament session on Sunday.
He also expressed the hope that the tragic incident would make “(our) friends in Turkey” pay serious attention to the activities of terrorists across the region.
Turkish government officials said the explosions were a terrorist attack carried out by suicide bombers but no group immediately claimed responsibility.
Turkish prime minister declared three days of national mourning after the incident.
