According to Tasnim dispatches, the Syrian army backed by the country's air force launched the ground operation early this morning.
The operation began by firing rockets and mortar shells in the eastern outskirts of Damascus.
In the meantime, reconnaissance aircraft have conducted operation over Damascus outskirts since last night and their flights are underway.
Reports also indicate that terrorist groups’ positions in Jobar and Ein Tarma neighborhoods, located in Eastern Ghouta, were hit by the Syrian army, with thick plumes of black smoke visible billowing from Jobar.
Syrian military commanders have recently said they have made gains in the battle against militants, recapturing several villages in northern and central areas of the country, following Russian airstikes.
