Iran’s Basij Force to Stage Massive Military Drills

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of Iran’s Basij (volunteer) Force Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi announced that his forces are scheduled to hold a large-scale war game in the coming days.

Speaking at a press conference Sunday on the occasion of the beginning of the National Basij Week, General Naqdi said the military exercises code-named “‘Ela Beit ul-Muqaddas 94’ (Towards al-Quds 94), will be staged on Thursday, November 19.

120 Basij Force battalions from northern and central provinces of Tehran, Qom, Alborz, Semnan and Markazi will take part in the war game on the outskirts of the central holy city of Qom, he said.

"Ela Beit ul-Muqaddas" exercises are held regularly each year in different parts of Iran to promote Basij forces’ power and preparedness to counter possible enemy threats against the country.

The Basij is a paramilitary volunteer force established in November 1979 by order of the Late Founder of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Rouhollah Khomeini.
