Political Future of Syria An Internal Issue: Analyst

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A Syrian analyst stressed that political settlement of the conflicts in his country should be done by the Syrian nation alone, stressing that no decision from outside will have a chance to shape the Arab country’s future.

The crisis in Syria has a political solution that is in the purview of the Syrian people, meaning that any plan for ending the conflicts should be put to the vote, Bassam Abu Abdallah, the director of the Damascus Center for Strategic Studies, told Tasnim.

He underlined that a referendum should be held to decide on any political plan for the future of Syria.

Abu Abdallah also noted that the opposition to the central government in Syria will be acceptable only if it is expressed by the Syrians inside the country, not masterminded by the foreigners.

Making a reference to the international talks in Vienna for settling the crisis in Syria, the analyst noted that it came after attempts by the US, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar have failed to overthrow the Damascus government.

Foreign ministers from more than a dozen nations have held two meetings in Vienna over the past month seeking to find a way to resolve the conflict in Syria.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists from various groups, including ISIL, currently controlling parts of it.

According to the United Nations, more than 250,000 people have been killed and one million wounded during the conflict.
