Raul Lozano Named Iran Volleyball Coach


TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Poland’s Czarni Radom Coach Raul Lozano has been named as head coach of the Iranian national volleyball team.

The 59-year-old coach replaced Serbian Slobodan Kovac.

Poland’s former coach Andrea Anastasi also was among the candidates.

Iran has already reached an agreement with Juan Manuel Cichello as assistant. He has previously worked with his countryman Julio Velasko in the Iranian volleyball team.

Lozano began his coaching career with Estudientes de la Plata of Argentina and also worked at several Italian clubs, including Rex Pordenone, Cedisa Salerno, and Milan Volley, as well as Germany’s Niemcy.

The Argentine coach has also coached Spain, Poland and Germany national teams.

Lozano takes over the Iranian team with a huge load of expectations on his shoulders, as his first goal will be to win the Olympic qualification at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Japan where his new team will face Australia, Japan, Korea and second and third team from the European qualifier as well as the second teams from the NORCECA and South American qualifiers.
