North Korean Media Confirms UN Chief’s Visit to Pyongyang

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The North Korean state news agency KCNA confirmed that Ban Ki-moon will visit Pyongyang on Monday for four days.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will visit Pyongyang on Monday for four days, the North Korean state news agency KCNA confirmed Wednesday, Sputnik News reported.

On Monday, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported, citing a senior UN source, that Ban was likely to visit North Korea this week.

Ban’s visit to North Korea could contribute to the stabilization on the Korean peninsula, Ri Hung-Sik, Director-General of the foreign ministry's international organization bureau, said on Tuesday.

Since 1953, Seoul and Pyongyang remain legally at war, as the Korean War ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty, and confrontations arise sporadically.
