IAEA, Iran Hold Technical Meeting in Vienna

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Representatives of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held a technical meeting in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Tuesday to reach a conclusion over an upcoming report that the agency is going to release about Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

Speaking to reporters before the meeting, Iranian Ambassador to the IAEA Reza Najafi said that as predicted in the Road-map agreement between Iran and the agency, the meeting is aimed at reaching a conclusion over remaining issues regarding Tehran's atomic energy program.

“We will discuss the latest issues and after concluding them, the IAEA would release its report in this regard next week,” he said.

Co-chaired by Hamid Baeedinejad, the head of the Iranian team of nuclear experts, and Vario Ranta, a deputy of IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano, the technical meeting started at 10 a.m. (local time) in Vienna.

The Iranian envoy further said that deputy foreign minister and senior nuclear negotiator Abbas Araqchi plans to meet Amano this afternoon.

On July 14, Iran and the IAEA signed a Road-map regarding the Islamic Republic’s nuclear activities in the Austrian capital.

The agreement was reached on the same day Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany – also known as P5+1 or E3+3) finalized the text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in Vienna.

As part of the Road-map, the IAEA is required to finish its investigations on Iran’s nuclear activities and submit a report to the agency’s Board of Governors by December 15.

The UN nuclear monitoring agency has confirmed in its regular reports that Tehran has been complying with the terms of its agreement with the agency, required for the implementation of the JCPOA.

Under the JCPOA, limits will be put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all economic and financial bans against Tehran.
