Spokesman Rejects US Officials’ Claims on Iran’s Alleged Role in Cyber-Attacks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman categorically denied the recent allegations raised by US officials about Iran’s cyber-attacks, and said Tehran has been a victim of such attacks.

“In the past years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been a victim of serious cyber-attacks such as Stuxnet but Iran has never responded to these illegal attacks with reciprocal cyber-attacks,” Jaberi Ansari said on Friday.

He reiterated that in Iran’s view “lack of an efficient legal system on the international scene to prevent and prohibit such attacks” is one of serious shortages.

He noted that Iran, as the rotating president of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), has always been committed to adopting and strengthening the preventive mechanisms in this field and it has always called on other countries, especially the western countries to cooperate and prevent destructive cyber-attacks and measures.

The Iranian experts have in recent years made great headway in producing home-made defensive equipment and have also made progress in securing the country against cyber-attacks.

Iran is now training Master of Science students in the field of cyber defense and the doctoral classes in that field will be also established in future.

According to Head of Iran’s Civil Defense Organization General Gholam Reza Jalali, a detailed plan is being prepared for the academic training in the cyber defense subjects due to inadequacy of the fields and university students in the “banking and industrial” sectors.
