Iran’s Railroads to Be Electrified with Russian Investment

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei announced that a joint project with Russia to electrify Iran’s railroad network will be launched in the near future.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Friday, Sanaei said that over the past two months, a number of good agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) have been signed between the two countries in various areas.

He added that some of the joint projects are under study and some others are being implemented.

“One of the (joint) projects with Russia that will be operational soon is the electrification of Iran’s railroad lines worth over five billion dollars with the participation of a Russian state company,” the Iranian diplomat noted.

High-ranking officials from Iran and Russia inked seven agreements and MoUs earlier this week with the aim of deepening and strengthening the existing cooperation and ties between the two countries.

The documents were signed in a ceremony on November 23 with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in attendance on the sidelines of the 3rd Gas Exporting Countries Forum.
