Implementation of JCPOA Hinges on Closure of PMD Case: MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker underlined that certain provisions of the recent nuclear deal with six world powers (known as JCPOA) will be implemented only if the so-called PMD (possible military dimensions) case in Tehran’s nuclear program is closed.

Speaking at a press conference after a visit to the Natanz nuclear facility, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said the commission is keeping a close eye on the course of implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) so that instructions provided by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei are observed exactly.

On Saturday, a group of members of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, who are tasked with monitoring the implementation of the JCPOA, visited the Natanz nuclear site.

He further pointed to a recent letter from Ayatollah Khamenei to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani regarding the implementation of the JCPOA, and said the measures related to the articles 4 and 5 of the letter will be carried out only when the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) closes the PMD case.

“More than 9,000 centrifuges are currently working in the Natanz nuclear facility,” he said, adding that the number will be decreased to 5,060 after the closure of the PMD case.

In a letter to President Rouhani earlier on October 21, Ayatollah Khamenei had highlighted nine main points that the administration will need to take note of regarding the course of implementing the JCPOA.

Tehran and the Group 5+1 (also known as P5+1 or E3+3) on July 14 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran's nuclear program.

The nuclear deal would terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran after coming into force.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano is planned to release a report on the Iranian nuclear program, including the PMD issue, in coming days and the Agency’s Board of Governors will review the report and make a final decision in a meeting on December 15.

"The report will not be black and white," Amano told a news conference on Thursday when asked about the final assessment of PMD file.
