Iran’s DM Asks for Pakistan’s Serious Attention to Ensure Border Security


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan on Tuesday underlined the necessity for Pakistan’s further attention to ensure security along the two neighboring countries’ shared borders.

Speaking at a meeting with the visiting Pakistani Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif here in Tehran, Dehqan reminded the huge losses inflicted on the region due to the spread of terrorism, and said, the inauspicious phenomenon can be defeated through unity, cooperation and joint efforts by the regional countries.

General Sharif is accompanying the South Asian country’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his visit to Tehran.

He further underlined that Tehran attaches great importance to its ties with Islamabad, adding, “Iran’s foreign policy and defense diplomacy attache great importance to Pakistan.”

Also at the meeting, Sahrif said he welcomes further expansion of defense, military and security cooperation with Iran, and asked for acceleration of the process of strengthening of ties.

As regards border security, he said, “We are committed to ensuring the security of our borders with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
