Bahraini People’s Resistance Only Way to Final Victory: Analyst

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A London-based political analyst said patience and resistance are the only ways through which Bahraini people could achieve victory in their popular movement against al-Khalifa ruling family.

Patience and resistance are the only paths ahead of the people of Bahrain to achieve victory in their uprising against al-Khalifa regime, Saeed Shahabi told Tasnim on Sunday.

Citing verse 125 of chapter Aal-Imran, the translation of which reads, "Yes, if you hold on to patience and piety, and the enemy comes rushing at you; your Lord will help you with five thousand angels having marks (of distinction)”, he stressed that only those nations which show steadfastness and patience in their fight will assert their rights and achieve their goals.

He further said that history has shown that the nations’ perseverance will finally bring about dictator regimes’ collapse, speaking of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, which toppled the US-backed monarchy.

The Iranian nation toppled the US-backed Pahlavi regime 36 years ago, on February 11, 1979, ending the 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country.

The revolution, spearheaded by the late Imam Khomeini, established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy.

The uprising in Bahrain began on February 14, 2011. Protesters initially called for political reforms and a constitutional monarchy. However, the demand later changed to an outright call for the ouster of the Al Khalifa family following its brutal crackdown on popular protests.

Scores of people have been killed in the crackdown and security forces have arrested hundreds including doctors and nurses. Dozens of demonstrators have also been sentenced to jail terms for attending street protests.
