Over 20 German Policemen Injured in Clashes with Football Fans

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A total of 23 police officers were injured in clashes with football fans in the northwestern German city of Gelsenkirchen, local media reported Sunday.

On Saturday night, the perpetrators threw stones and bottles at the law enforcement officers at the Gelsenkirchen train station after a football match between Schalke 04 and Wolfsburg, the German Die Welt newspaper said, citing police.

Police was deployed at the station to assist the safe departure of Wolfsburg fans, who were attacked by Schalke's fans.

Police reportedly identified 143 attackers, Sputnik News reported.
