AFC Champions League Playoffs: Naft Loses to El Jaish

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Naft Tehran was eliminated by Qatar’s El Jaish in the AFC Champions League Playoffs here at the Azadi Stadium on Tuesday.

In the 63rd minute, Abderrezzaq Hamedallah opened Alireza Beiranvand’s goal after Iranian defenders failed to clear Mohamed Methnani’s ball into the penalty area.

Naft, who defeated El Jaish 1-0 last year in this round, put the Qatari team under pressure to equalize the match.

With five minutes remaining, Ali Ghorbani should have scored but sent the ball to the arms of the El Jaish goalkeeper.

And on the stroke of full time, Romarinho put the result beyond any doubt when, on the break, he rolled the ball into the bottom corner as Naft pushed forward in a desperate attempt to take the game into extra-time.
