Many Countries Keen to Build Nuclear Power Plants in Iran: Salehi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said many countries, including Japan and South Korea, have voiced their willingness to construct nuclear power plants in the Islamic Republic.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting in Tehran, Salehi highlighted recent measures taken by Tehran to develop peaceful nuclear energy projects, saying that many countries are keen to actively participate in the projects.

“Numerous countries, including Japan and South Korea have announced their readiness to construct (nuclear) power plants and proper measures have been taken in this regard,” he said.

However, the official added, since the talks with foreign countries have not yielded results yet, the details cannot be announced to the public.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Salehi expressed the hope that the country’s contract with Russia to build two nuclear power plants would become operational by the end of the current Iranian year (March 19).

He went on to say that talks have also been held with China to construct two nuclear power plants in Makran coasts in southeastern Iran.
