Russia’s GAZ in Talks to Launch Assembly Line in Iran: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – GAZ Group, Russia’s leading manufacturer of commercial vehicles, is in talks for cooperation with a number of Iranian automobile manufacturing companies in the wake of the termination of anti-Tehran sanctions, a report said.

A source in Russia’s Ministry and Trade told the Tass news agency on Wednesday that the GAZ group is in negotiations with Mammut Group, Iran Automobile Co., Zamyad and Sahand Tabriz Diesel, to organize assembly and distribution of Gaz Next in Iran.

The source added that GAZ is also holding talks with Iran’s Defense Industries Organization on supply of all-wheel drive URAL chassis to the Islamic Republic’s military, as well as civilian market.

The Russian company's interest in entering the Iranian market comes after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 finalized a comprehensive deal on Tehran’s nuclear program and implemented it on January 16.

The comprehensive nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), terminated all nuclear-related sanctions on Iran after coming into force.
