TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif departed Tehran for the German city of Munich on Thursday to participate a meeting of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) and the Munich Security Conference (MSC).

A high-ranking delegation, including Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian, accompany the Iranian top diplomat in his trip to Germany.

The ISSG meeting, which aims to find a political solution to nearly five years of conflict in Syria, is going to be held on Thursday in Bavaria, Germany, in the run-up to the Munich Security Conference.

According to German Foreign Ministry, representatives of the Arab League, the European Union, the US, Iran, Russia, Egypt, China, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates will take part in the meeting.

It is the group’s first meeting since the UN-brokered peace talks between delegates from the Syrian government and divided opposition suspended in the Swiss city of Geneva earlier this month.

The 52nd edition of the MSC is also scheduled to be held from February 12 to 14, 2016, in the German city of Munich.

Since its foundation five decades ago, the MSC has become a leading international platform for dialogue on foreign and security policy.

In addition to its annual flagship conference, the MSC regularly convenes high-profile events on particular topics and regions and publishes the Munich Security Report.
