President Rouhani: Africa Has Special Place in Iran’s Foreign Policy
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined that the Islamic Republic attaches great importance to its relations with African nations, Ghana in particular.
Speaking in a joint press conference with his Ghanaian counterpart John Dramani Mahama in Tehran on Sunday, President Rouhani pointed to the issues raised in an earlier meeting with Mahama, saying that they discussed ways to pave the grounds for closer cooperation in various cultural, scientific, industrial and mining areas.
“Iran and Ghana have numerous capacities for cooperation in various sectors, including oil and Gas, Petrochemicals, building power plants, and providing engineering and agricultural services,” he said.
The Iranian president further said that in their Sunday talks, the two sides also exchanged views about problems facing the Middle East region and ways to resolve them.
Rouhani also stressed the need for closer regional and international cooperation in the fight against extremism and terrorism.
In the first visit by a Ghanaian president to Iran in 37 years, Mahama is also slated to meet with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
Expansion of relations with African nations in all political, economic and cultural fields is top on the agenda of Iran’s foreign policy.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who took office in August 2013, has repeatedly stressed his government’s interest in boosting relations with African states.
