India Seeks to Raise LPG Imports from Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Indian government has expressed willingness to import more liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Iran following the removal of anti-Tehran sanctions, a report said.
India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas released a statement on Monday, saying that the country is interested in importing more liquefied Iranian gas from the Islamic Republic.
It added that New Delhi is also eager to build gas processing facilities in Iran's southeastern Chabahar port.
It comes after a visit by the Indian oil minister to Iran on April 9-10 where he discussed expansion of mutual cooperation with his Iranian counterpart Bijan Namdar Zangeneh.
“(Dharmendra) Pradhan also conveyed to the Iranian side that both countries must expand the basket of oil and gas trade. He expressed India’s interest in importing LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) from Iran and said that companies from both sides could discuss setting up an extraction plant in Chabahar, if required,” the statement read, Sputnik reported.
Pradhan’s two-day visit was aimed at boosting energy ties between the two nations following the removal of anti-Tehran sanctions.
All nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran were lifted after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a nuclear deal on July 14, 2015 and started implementing it on January 16.
