Scientific Center to Be Built for Iran’s Fordow in 2 Years, Russia Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Russian permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said a scientific center is to be launched at Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility.

Vladimir Voronkov said a nuclear scientific center for production of stable isotopes will be built at Iran’s Fordow facility in two years.

"The timeframe has been envisaged by a work plan. It (construction of the center) is going to take about two years according to the current assessments," he told the Tass news agency after a joint commission meeting between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on Friday in the Austrian capital city of Vienna.

"Russia jointly with Iran made a presentation in the spirit of transparency on the production of stable isotopes at the Fordow facility in Iran. The post-sanctions program was also actively discussed (during the meeting)," the Russian diplomat added.

He said that the next meeting would take place in the next three months in strict compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the July 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and the six world powers.

During the Friday meeting, high-ranking diplomats from Iran and the Group 5+1 held talks on the process of implementation of the JCPOA.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyed Abbas Araqchi and EU’s Deputy Foreign Policy Chief Helga Maria Schmid co-chaired the event.

The two sides discussed ways to resolve problems remaining after the start of the implementation of the agreement on January 16.
