Hezbollah, Syrian Army Thwart Daesh Attack Near Lebanon Border

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Hezbollah fighters and the Syrian army thwarted an attack by Daesh (ISIL) militants on their posts near Lebanon's border overnight Monday, the Hezbollah-affiliated War Media Center said.

The resistance movement reported on its Twitter account that Daesh extremists attempted to reach Syrian army and Hezbollah posts in Jarajir, located on the eastern outskirts of Lebanon's Arsal, in the border Qalamoun mountain range, the Daily Star reported.

The Center said the extremists were targeted with machine guns and artillery, leading to a number of casualties.

It added that other groups of militants were also targeted in the areas of Zamrani and Qassira, also located in the Qalamoun, causing further casualties. They were reportedly supporting the extremists who attempted to infiltrate.

Daesh and Nusra Front militants have been holed up on the outskirts of Arsal for nearly two years. The Lebanese Army and Hezbollah have been targeting their hideouts on a regular basis.
