Russia Says Ready to Supply Iran with More Armaments

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The head of Russia’s Federal Arms Export Service said Moscow is prepared to provide Iran with more military gear, including radio-location and electronic warfare systems.

"We have contracts with Iran, other contracts are also possible, but the talk is only about the permitted objects of supply, which are not on the UN’s ban list," Alexander Fomin said on Tuesday as cited by the Tass news agency.

He added that the permitted armaments include small arms and other products, including non-lethal, radiolocation and electronic warfare systems.

On July 20, 2015, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2231, which bars Iran from developing missiles “designed to carry nuclear warheads.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Fomin referred to the recent delivery of S-300 missile defense system to Iran and said, "The deliveries of S-300 to Iran are carried out according to schedule, even a bit ahead of it.”

On April 17, Iran displayed part of the Russian-made S-300 air defense missile system in a military parade in Tehran, held to mark the National Army Day.

The gear unveiled in the ceremony included 2 radar systems of S-300, its carrier and command vehicles as well as the crane for lifting its missiles.

Iran has been long waiting to receive the air defense missile system it had purchased from Russia in 2007.
