Iran’s Judiciary Chief to Visit Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani will travel to Iraq within the next few days for an official visit, his deputy announced Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran, Judiciary's deputy chief and spokesman, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, said Ayatollah Amoli Larijani will pay the official visit at the invitation of the Iraqi officials.

Given the possibility of making a pilgrimage to the holy Shiite sites in the Iraqi cities, the top Iranian judge’s visit may last for more than three days, Ejei added.

Back in 2014, Ayatollah Amoli Larijani and his Iraqi counterpart Midhat al-Mahmoud held a meeting in Tehran to explore avenues for the expansion of judicial cooperation between the two Muslim countries.

In August 2015, one hundred Iranian prisoners held in Iraq were extradited from the Arab country based on a new extradition treaty.
