Iran’s FM Urges G5+1 Adherence to JCPOA Commitments

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s foreign minister called on signatories to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to honor their commitments under the nuclear deal, including taking measures to ease banking and trade ties with Iran.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has seriously met its commitments, and expects its (Group) 5+1 partners to honor theirs and (accept) responsibility to carefully carry out the undertakings,” Mohammad Javad Zarif said Saturday in a meeting with President of the Senate of Belgium Christine Defraigne here in Tehran.

Zarif also expressed the hope that Europeans would take genuine and practical steps to stimulate banking and financial ties with Iran in a way that economic relations between Tehran and Brussels would yield palpable results.

Defraigne, for her part, called for the enhancement of bilateral relations and constant interaction with Iran.

She also described Iran as a major, influential regional player in the establishment of peace and stability.

Heading a high-ranking parliamentary delegation, Defraigne arrived in Tehran on Wednesday, and met with a number of top officials, including President Hassan Rouhani.

The trip comes against a backdrop of international enthusiasm for enhanced ties with Iran after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached the agreement on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and started implementing it on January 16.
