Iranian, Italian Private Sectors to Boost Cooperation in Oil Industry: SIPIEM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Society of Iranian Petroleum Industry Equipment Manufacturers (SIPIEM) Reza Khayyamian said the society plans to boost cooperation with Italy in constructing oil industry equipment.

“In the current situation and given the high-capacity market existing in the (Middle East) region, we are seeking to establish new partnerships and joint companies with foreign firms,” Khayyamian said at a press conference on Saturday.

He added that in line with the policy, SIPIEM has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Italian Association of the Oil Industry (ASSITOL) to promote mutual cooperation.

Khayyamian said the two sides have agreed to hold negotiations on joint ventures, adding that in this regard, representatives of Italian firms will visit Iran in the near future to hold face to face talks with SIPIEM.

Earlier this month, high-ranking officials from the private and public sectors of Iran and Italy signed 6 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to boost cooperation in various economic, political and cultural fields.

The documents were signed in a ceremony in Tehran with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in attendance.

Heading a 250-strong business delegation, Renzi paid an official visit to Iran to discuss ways to improve mutual economic cooperation between Tehran and Rome.

The agreements came against the backdrop of a new wave of interest in ties with Iran after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a nuclear agreement on July 14, 2015 and started implementing it on January 16.

The comprehensive nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran.
