'Silence Regime' in Damascus Suburbs Extended for Two Days: Russia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Russian and US sides agreed with the Syrian government and opposition to prolong the ‘regime of silence’ in the Damascus suburb for two more days, sources said on Monday.

The "regime of silence" in Eastern Ghouta, a suburb to the east of the Syrian capital Damascus, has been extended for two more days, Lt. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko, the head of the Russian reconciliation center said on Monday.

"The Russian and US sides agreed with the Syrian government and moderate opposition to prolong the ‘regime of silence’ in the Eastern Ghouta area (Damascus suburb) for two more days – until 24:00, May 3 [21:00 GMT May 2]," Kuralenko said.

Speaking from the Russian air base in Hmeymim, in western Latakia province, Kuralenko said the "negotiations on a regime of silence in the Aleppo province are continuing."

A Syrian military source confirmed the news to Sputnik.

"It was agreed to extend the truce in the Eastern Ghouta area for 48 hours," the source said.
