29th Int’l Book Fair Kicks Off in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The 29th edition of Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) opened in a new fairground south of Tehran on Tuesday morning with a ceremony attended by President Hassan Rouhani.

President Rouhani delivered a speech to the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

Iranian Culture Minister Ali Jannati, Mayor of Tehran Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and the Russian president’s envoy for the cultural affairs were among the participants in the ceremony.

Before the speech, President Rouhani paid a visit to the pavilion of Russia, a special guest in the exhibition.

The opening of the book fair also marks the official inauguration of a large fairground south of Tehran, near mausoleum of late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini.

Known as Shahr-e-Aftab (Sun City), the complex is going to host all public exhibitions in Tehran from now on.

Around 2,400 Iranian publishers have attended this year’s book fair, known as the most significant cultural event in Iran.

Several foreign countries have also attended the exhibition, mainly from Russia, Egypt and Syria.

Some 118,000 English publications are being presented in the event, which will continue until May 14.

Tehran International Book Fair is annually held as a social and cultural phenomenon with book displays, panel discussions and publishing deals.
